The China government is happy when the baby hatch launched in 2011 believing it worth addressing the problem of child welfare in the country. When the baby hatch open a months ago in 2011, on its first 11 days about 106 babies dropped off in this house all of these are suffering in medical condition and disabilities. Many of the dropped off happening at night. Some brought their child and pressed the button to alert the nurse.
The nurse will bring the child to a nearby orphanage.
It happens 8 days a day, there are 32 hatches across China. The hatches are radical experiment by chinese authority to rescue the 10,000 babies abondoned every year. Many of them on the street, one of three died. Families who used the baby hatch do it anonymously and almost none was do it publicly. Usually the parents did it because their baby is sick or they can't afford to raise the baby.
An estimate 1,400 babies have been abondoned at china's hatches. One of the founder of the program explained that they made it because many babies were left on the street, threw at the trash can and brought infront of the hospital. The government said its about 500,000 abandoned children but in reality its almost a million. They planned to build more baby hatches but they find out it is not the solution instead they decided to educate the parents, give medical, education and provide financial support for the children so that they will not reached the level of depression to abandoned their children.
